FootballFootball Agent Patrick Mork Who Negotiated the Transfer of McDonald Mariga Banned by FIFA
- Patrick Mork has been banned by FIFA from acting as a mediator for one year after irregularities were revealed by Swedish authorities
- Mork was found guilty of negotiating a deal for a Nigerian minor with Swedish club Hammarby and failing to present an agreement in writing
- The football agent has been involved in high-profile Kenyan transfers like McDonald Mariga, Collins Shichenje and Henry Atola
The world governing body for football FIFA has banned Patrick Mork from all football-related activities. Mork has been a football agent who has been involved in securing transfers for Kenyan players in European leagues.
FIFA decided to follow up on the suspension by the Swedish Football Association’s disciplinary committee which suspended Mork for one year. FIFA has now extended the ban all over the world.
Mork is known for his works in the country. He was involved in the transfer of retired Harambee Stars midfielder McDonald Mariga. He also played a part in getting former AFC Leopards player Collins Shichenje and Tusker striker Henry Atola to move to Swedish top-flight club AIK.
Swedish authorities decided to ban Mork after it was revealed he was involved in negotiating a deal for an underage player. Mork negotiated and struck a deal with Hammarby football club for the services of youngster Akinkunmi Amoo. Amoo was barely 18 years.
The parties involved also failed to put a valid agreement in writing. Hammarby was fined approximately 35,000 US Dollars for their part in the deal but have appealed the decision. The hearing has been set for May.
Tecno Super reports that the disciplinary committee lawyer Kristen Stridsberg confirmed that Mork’s suspension started officially on April 1st 2022 and will run to March 31st 2023.
Aftonbladet reports that the agent with over 30 years of experience doesn’t care about the FIFA ban. Mork initially had planned to appeal the decision but has since stated that he has no faith in football’s internal legal system.
Hammarby and I were reported by the Swedish Football Association, judged by the Swedish Football Association and if I am to have the right to appeal, it must be approved by the Football Association’s Board of Appeal. If I am granted the right to appeal, it's still the union’s appeals board that will handle the appeal afterwards.
