  • Real Madrid defeated Manchester City 3-1 in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night
  • The defeat in Spain denied the Premier League any chance of progressing to the final as Los Blancos booked their place in the final on a 6-5 goal aggregate
  • Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is yet to win the UEFA Champions League since he left Barcelona in 2012

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has not won the Champions League since he left Barcelona in 2012.

The Catalan-born led the English champions into the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu with a 4-3 advantage against Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

And they took the lead again through Riyad Mahrez after 74 minutes to enhance the chances of Man City reaching the finals.

However, Real Madrid staged a remarkable comeback as substitute Rodrygo scored twice in a space of a minute to send the game to extra time.

The Los Blancos proved their 'big game' mentality in extra time when Karim Benzema stepped up to coolly slot home from the spot-kick to turn the tie on its head.

Carlo Ancelotti's men held their fort in the dying embers of extra time to secure a Champions League berth against Liverpool in Paris.

This means that Guardiola stands no chance of winning this year's Champions League. The last time the Spanish gaffer won the prestigious trophy was in 2010/11.

Guardiola has reached the Champions League final only once since 2011. That was last season when Manchester City faced Chelsea in the final.

Pep reached the semi-final three times with Bayern Munich - 2014, 2015 and 2016.

At Man City, he's been knocked out in the round of 16 in 2017, quarter-final twice in 2018 and 2019, semi-final twice in 2020 and 2022 and final in 2021.

Yaya Toure Inspired 'African Shamans' Responsible for Guardiola’s Champions League Failure Again

In one of the most dramatic nights in Champions League football, Real Madrid came from behind to knock Manchester City out of the competition in what could be a boomerang.

Sports Brief earlier reported, as quoted by Marca, that Yaya Toure’s agent Dmitri Seluk had, in 2018, predicted that Spanish manager Pep Guardiola would not win the prestigious title again courtesy of ‘African Shamans’.

The manager had won the title twice during his time at Barcelona, but he has struggled to win the competition since he left the Catalan giants.
