Why Ter Stegen will miss international football

Ter Stegen is set to miss the summer games for Germany. This means that he will not play the Nations League games against Italy, England and Hungary. This is due to a knee injury he picked up while playing for Barcelona. In an interview, Hansi Flick said,

"Marc and I spoke extensively about his personal situation with the national team and FC Barcelona. He is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Due to injuries, he has not been able to have a break in recent years given he has been recovering. Taking into account the World Cup in Qatar, we agreed this year a break is important from training and matches."

Ter Stegen was happy with this decision and was quoted saying,

"I am always happy with the national team and at call ups. However, after three intense seasons without a break in the summer, I am happy that the coach backs my rest."

Germany's national football team has proven itself over the years, winning trophies and awards worldwide. They have a record four World Cup titles, which are not easy to win. They currently have a young and vibrant squad mixed with experienced players such as Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer. They hope to clinch a fifth World Cup in Qatar this year.
