Cape Town City beat Kaizer Chiefs, Amakhosi’s DStv Premiership slump continues with fourth defeat in a row
FootballSecond Placed Royal AM's Excellent Season Continues as the Team Wins DStv Premiership Q Innovation Quarter 3
- Upstarts Royal AM's excellent first season in the Premier Soccer League has been rewarded with an accolade
- Thwihli Thwahla was confirmed as the winners of the DStv Premiership Q-Innovation Quarter Three after an excellent run of form
- More importantly, this run of form has put the PSL debutants in the driving seat to finish as runners-up to Mamelodi Sundowns
For a change, Mamelodi Sundowns is not going to win something DStv Premiership-related.
This time, it was Royal AM which got its time in the sun, as the club was announced as the winners of the DStv Premiership Q-Innovation Quarter Three. The team finished the eight-match quarter (rounds 17 to 24) on 17 points, level with the equally in-form Cape Town City.
However, what separated Thwihli Thwahla from the Cityzens was the number of goals that the teams both scored, as the goal difference between them was identical. Royal scored 13 goals and conceded six in the eight matches, while City rifled in 12 and conceding five in that time.
This was the first time such an instance - goal difference or goals scored - was used to decide which team won a quarter since the initiative began in the 2012/13 Absa Premiership season.
This is a welcome boost for Shauwn 'Mamkhize' Mkhize's charges, as the team currently sits in the runners-up spot. If they hold onto it, the CAF Champions League will welcome them next season.
Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs came in at third and fourth place respectively, also level with 14 points, though goal difference was a lot clearer in the champions' favour.
