Confirmed: Otto Addo to Lead Ghana at 2022 FIFA World Cup

Former Ghana international Otto Addo has confirmed he will lead the Black Stars at the impending FIFA World Cup.

The 46-year-old tactician masterminded Ghana's qualification to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Otto Addo said in a podcast with Hamburger Abendblatt that he has received permission from Borussia Dortmund to coach the Black Stars until 2023.

“I got permission from Dortmund. Under certain conditions, it works out that I can do the international game phases in June, September and also the World Cup,” Addo said in a podcast of Hamburger Abendblatt as quoted by Kickgh.

Addo currently serves as the scout and assistant manager at Borussia Dortmund was appointed on an interim basis alongside Aston Villa U23 coach George Boateng, ex-Asante Kotoko coach Mas-ud Didi Dramani and Chris Hughton in a four-man technical team for the World Cup play-off hurdle.

This comes on the back of a clarion call by the Ghanaian populace including the president of Ghana His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo for Otto to remain as head coach of the Black Stars after his brief stint as head coach of the four-time African champions.

It is however unknown if a similar agreement has been reached with Otto Addo's lieutenants for the World Cup play-offs assignment.

Otto Addo reaches agreement with GFA to coach Ghana at Qatar 2022

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Black Stars midfielder Otto Addo has reached an agreement with the Ghana Football Association to lead the Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Addo was initially appointed as head coach of the Black Stars on an interim basis following the sack of Serbian trainer Milovan Rajevac.

He was appointed as the head of a four-man technical team that comprised Aston Villa U23 coach George Boateng, ex-Asante Kotoko coach Mas-ud Didi Dramani and Chris Hughton, formerly of Newcastle United.
