Anthony Nwakaeme has won the 2021-22 Turkish Super Lig title with Trabzonspor with three matches to spare, Soccernet.ng and Goal report.
The Nigerian international who has not featured for the Super Eagles in over three years has been an integral part of Trabzonspor’s history since joining the club four years ago.
Despite playing a 2-2 draw with Antalyaspor inside the Medical Park Stadium on Saturday, April 30, Trabzonspor won their first league title in 38 years.
Nwakaeme who only just got back from an injury was an unused substitute against Antalyaspor but has featured 27 times this season for Trabzonspor, scoring 11 goals in the process.
Abdullah Avci’s men emerged champions and claimed their first title since 1984 as the closest challengers Fenerbahce cannot catch up with them.
They are now unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions.
However, Nwakaeme has refused to renew his contract with Trabzonspor, which runs out by the end of the season.
Nwakaeme flashes gold-plated Mercedes-Maybach S650 Sedan worth N81m
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Nigerian international Anthony Nwakaeme has shown off an exotic Mercedes-Maybach S650 Sedan worth $173,000 (about N81million) on his Instagram story.
The 33-year-old who currently plays for Turkish club Trabzonspor has only managed to feature for the Super Eagles once - dating back to 2017 in a 1-1 draw with Tunisia.
Nwakaeme has also had stints in Romania and Israel as he began his professional career in 2010 at Universitatea Cluj where he scored 8 goals in 37 league games.
It was during his time with Israeli club Hapoel Be'er Sheva that he earned a call up into the national team, but he featured only once for Nigeria.
In 2019, he went on to declare that he deserves to be recalled to the national team.
