The Amakhosi slumped to their fourth defeat in a row at the hands of Cape Town City at home.
Cape Town City secured the 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Craig Martin and Terrence Mashego. Martin opened the scoring in the 14th minute for the visitors after a mix up at the back by the Amakhosi’s defence. Mashego made it 2 at the hour mark to compound Chiefs' worries.
Chiefs fought back and got a goal back in the 83rd minute. Dumisani Zuma got onto the scoresheet to give the Amakhosi some hope of securing a point from the encounter.
The win sees Cape Town City consolidate third place and put themselves a point behind Royal AM, who occupy the second spot.
Cape Town City has extra impotence to win the match as the game was initially supposed to be played in December last year. At one stage, there was doubt about whether the fixture would even be played.
Speaking after the game Eric Tinkler was critical of his team’s performance even though they got the win. Tinkler also commented on the nervy final ten minutes as Kaizer Chiefs fought back and looked like they could get an equaliser.

FootballIn December, Kaizer Chiefs were scheduled to host Eric Tinkler’s side, but a Covid-19 outbreak at their Naturena Village meant that the club could not honour the fixture, Sports Brief earlier reported.
The club were then charged by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for failing to honour the fixture, but they took the case up to the South African Football Association’s (SAFA) Arbitration which ruled in their favour. As a result, the PSL were ordered to reschedule Chiefs' two fixtures against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows.
