FootballNewcastle vs Liverpool match preview as Reds look to go top of the table
- The last time Liverpool played Newcastle, Jurgen Klopp’s side emerged 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Salah, Trent-Alexander Arnold and Diogo Jota
- The Reds visit St James’ Park one point behind Manchester City, and a win could see them go top, at least temporarily
- It will not be easy, however, as Eddie Howe’s side are on a four-game winning streak
Newcastle host Liverpool at St James’ Park on Saturday April 30 in a clash involving the Premier League’s in-form sides.
In their last matches, Newcastle put three past relegation-bound Norwich City, while Liverpool saw off Villareal 2-0 in the Champions League semi-final first leg.
The Reds are well on course to win the quadruple, as they are also in the FA Cup final, having already secured the Carabao Cup.
For Newcastle, they are on a four-game winning streak, a run of form that has seen them rise to ninth on the rankings and well away from the relegation zone.
Credit needs to go to Eddie Howe, who has somehow managed to transform the side from relegation favourites to comfortably sitting in mid-table.

Newcastle has long term injuries including Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson, Jamal Lewis and Isaac Hayden.
Ryan Fraser, meanwhile, is battling to make a return before the end of the season, but that is highly unlikely.
In the win against Norwich, Joelinton limped off with a minor knock, although that is unlikely to cause too many problems.
The trio of Miguel Almiron, Fabian Schar and Jonjo Shelvey, who were left out of the starting XI at Carrow Road, are also likely to make a return.
Here is Newcastle’s possible starting XI:
Dubravka; Krafth, Schar, Burn, Targett; Shelvey, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Almiron, Wood, Saint-Maximin
