FootballFormer Ghana International Reveals How He Was ‘Stabbed in the Dark’ to Lose His Coaching Job
- Ibrahim Tanko has finally broken his silence on the events which led to his sacking as Black Stars assistant coach
- The former Ghana international spent two years with the Black Stars, serving as the first assistant coach to James Kwesi Appiah between 2017 and 2019
- Tanko, who had previously worked with Cameroon, believes his boss was misled into sacking him
Ex-Ghana international Ibrahim Tanko has provided insight on how he lost his coaching job with the Black Stars.
Tanko, who served as the first assistant coach to Kwesi Appiah between 2017 and 2019, was sacked by his boss after Ghana's underwhelming performance at the 2019 AFCON.
The now Technical Director of Ghana Premier League side Accra Lions was reported to have fallen out with head coach Kwesi Appiah and further reports suggested Tanko was being considered by the Ghana Football Association to replace his immediate boss as head coach.
With the latter suggestions spreading like wildfire, Ibrahim Tanko was eventually relieved of his duties by Kwesi Appiah - who was also shown the exit door at the end of his contract in 2020.
But making meaning out of his unexplained sack, the ex-Cameroon assistant coach believes Kwesi Appiah was misled by the unsubstantiated reports.
"I don't know why Kwasi Appiah said that he couldn't work with me again but I have heard the rumours and the lies people have said about me," Tanko told Angel TVas quoted by Football Ghana.
"But Kwasi later got to know that the things he heard were not true but it's too late now and I have moved on from the issues," he added.
