On Tuesday, March 29, Twitter brought together fans, key partners and sports voices to watch the Ghana vs Nigeria World Cup qualifier at @TwitterGhana’s first-ever watch party and #TweetSuite event - also the first of its kind on the continent.

The turnout was amazing and the roar of the stadium was brought to life following Ghana’s win.

Guests in attendance included sports journalist Juliet Bawuah who tweeted about the tense atmosphere during the match, social media influencer and Spaces host Kalijay who tweeted some photos from the event and food/travel blogger Zubaidah who also tweeted a video of fans celebrating Ghana’s win.

Bernard Sokpe, Senior Partner Manager at Twitter, also put out a Tweet expressing his excitement about Twitter’s debut TweetSuite event in Africa and congratulating the Black Stars.

Ghana Talks About Africa Cup of Nations 2021 On Twitter Spaces

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Twitter was buzzing with excitement and trending conversations during the Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2021.

Throughout the tournament, football lovers across the continent turned to Twitter for live commentary and analysis of the games. By using official tournament hashtags like #AFCON2021, and national team hashtags like #TeamGhana fans were able to activate custom “hashmojis” and “flagmojis” that liven up and add colour to daily conversations around the tournament.

Several Twitter Spaces also popped up during the tournament, hosting engaging discussions of highlights and reliving critical AFCON moments. Notably, international sports journalists Juliet Bawuah and Gary Al-Smith partnered with Twitter to bring the latest behind the scenes insights to listeners in Ghana and across the continent, live from Cameroon
