The Blues were thoroughly dominant in the first half but could not find a breakthrough, with goalkeeper David De Gea making great saves to keep out Kai Havertz and N’golo Kante.

Chelsea would eventually find a breakthrough in the 60th minute, with Alonso volleying home a flick from Haverrz.

The visitors had barely finished celebrations as United got back in the game almost immediately, and it was that man Cristiano once again who came up with the goods.

Ronaldo, 37, scored his first career goal against Chelsea as he expertly controlled Matic’s flick to smash home past Edouard Mendy.

Despite half chances from both sides for the rest of the game, both sides eventually settled for a draw as United’s hopes for a top-four finish were all but ended.

The result leaves United in sixth place, five points behind fourth-place Arsenal, having played two games more.
