Legendary Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan has shed light on why his brother Baffour Gyan gave up on football.
According to the ex-Ghana captain, his elder brother, who had played about 90 per cent of the 2006 World Cup qualifiers was snubbed for the main competition in Germany.
The 36-year-old striker believes the decision by the then-Black Stars technical team literally killed the fire in Baffour, whose career dipped after missing out on the Mundial.
“It happened to my brother [Baffour Gyan]. In 2006 [when Ghana qualified for the World Cup for the first time], he played 90 per cent of the qualifiers, and then they brought strikers who had never tasted one game [for the tournament in Germany]. He was on the standby [list],” he said as quoted by Sportsworldghana.
Asamoah added that Baffour Gyan, who made 25 appearances for Ghana between 2001-and 2008, has channelled his interest to business and no longer follows football keenly.
“That was when my brother gave up on football. He doesn’t follow football, he doesn’t watch it, he doesn’t like it, he’s purely a businessman. Sometimes people have to be treated fairly.” He concluded.
