Karim Benzema hopes to emulate Real Madrid teammate, Luka Modric and become the second man to stop the dominance of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in winning the Ballon d’Or.
The 34-year-old is regarded as the top contender for this year’s award after having his most productive season with Los Blancos, which has seen him score 41 goals in 41 games this season.
According to a report via the Daily Mirror, Benzema admitted in 2018 that he has plans of winning the prestigious football award like Messi and Ronaldo but insists he is not obsessed about it.
"We have to think about it when we have ambition. But it doesn't have to be an obsession that refocuses you on yourself, on saying that you absolutely have to shine individually and score goals for yourself.
“If you have to win it, it's for who you are, what you show on the pitch, what I do.”

Benzema stands alone in Ballon d'Or race
Meanwhile, Karim Benzema’s two goals against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first-leg as seen the French striker shoot up in the race for the Ballon d’Or.
According to Marca, Benzema is competing with players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Kylian Mbappe, Mohamed Salah, and Robert Lewandowski for this year’s award.
The 34-year-old is this season's top scorer in the Spanish LaLiga with 25 goals and has scored 14 times in Europe for the Los Blancos.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Karim Benzema is the man of the hour at the moment as the Real Madrid striker kept the Los Blancos’ chase for another Champions League final alive after bagging a brace against Manchester City.
