  • Kaizer Chiefs interim Arthur Zwane has spoken out regarding the unsavoury incident with defender Njabulo Ngcobo
  • Ngbcobo refused to acknowledge Zwane after being substituted, before getting into an argument with assistant coach Lee Baxter
  • The incident was the subject of controversy among football fans, who were divided on Ngcobo's behaviour

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Arthur Zwane has given his thoughts on what transpired between him and defender Njabulo Ngcobo during the 2-1 loss to Golden Arrows yesterday.

Ngcobo walked past Zwane in a huff after being substituted, refusing to shake his hand. This appeared to upset goalkeeper coach Lee Baxter who went to confront Ngcobo for being disrespectful, before the other players on the bench calmed the irate Ngcobo.

A few minutes earlier, Ngcobo had made a costly mistake, which led to Arrows equalising. According to iDiskiTimes, Zwane was not too concerned, playing the incident off as Ngcobo just angry with himself and not the decision by the coaching staff to can him.

He said:

"I believe Njabulo was a bit upset at himself that he gave the ball away in the wrong areas and we were punished, I don’t view it as other people may seem to be something that is bad.
“I was a player myself so maybe he was upset, I believe he was upset at himself and he feels he could have done better there. Because at half-time we spoke about it, that [he should] release the ball early, don’t play the ball at the back, try to play the ball forward so we can attack.

The loss was the third one in a row for the Amakhosi since Zwane took, possibly scuppering any remaining chance of the team finishing second in the DStv Premiership this season.

Njabulo Ngcobo mistake and temper tantrum mars Kaizer Chiefs loss to Golden Arrows

Kaizer Chiefs' struggles following the departure of former coach Stuart Baxter continued as they were defeated 2-1 by Kaizer Chiefs at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban.

As reported by Sports Brief, the fixture will be remembered for Ngcobo's behaviour after he had been substituted not long after his mistake.

He ignored interim coach Arthur Zwane's outstretched hand, before having rant on the bench, with teammates trying to calm him down.
