  • Arsenal and Tottenham could be forced into a play-off for the top four if a unique run of results takes place
  • The Gunners are currently two points clear in fourth place, but Tottenham are hot on their heels with five games to go
  • The North London derby on May 12 has been tipped to be the decider for who secures fourth spot

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur could be forced into a play-off to decide who finishes fourth and gets the chance to play Champions League football next season.

As it stands, Manchester United are practically out of the race after their latest 3-1 defeat to the Gunners, with interim boss Ralf Rangnick admitting the top four dream was over.

The concession from Rangnick means the top-four race has boiled down to two clubs, and both of them happen to be from North London.

By Wednesday, April 27, Arsenal sat in fourth place on 60 points, with Tottenham trailing close behind with 58 points. Both sides have played 33 games and have five more games to determine the fate of their campaign.

Among the remaining five fixtures is a North London derby on May 12, which has been tipped to be the top-four decider.

One can who was spotted by SportBible shared an interesting tweet showing a string of results that needed to take place in order to force a playoff.

If his results were anything to go by, the North London derby needed to end in a 2-1 win for Tottenham to be on course for a playoff.

While it is extremely unique and rare to have such a playoff, if the results posted by the fan come to pass, It would leave both teams level on points, goal difference, goals scored, and obviously, goals conceded.

Another interesting result that needs to happen to see the scenario of a playoff is Tottenham losing 3-0 to Liverpool, and that is not too difficult to imagine happening.

Evra’s message to Man United

Amid theoretical results from the fan, one Manchester United supporter still believes his side can manage a top-four finish.

That supporter is Patrice Evra, who urged the Red Devils to focus on the present, despite the anticipated arrival of Erik Ten Hag.

"Ten Hag is not the present, he is the really near future. That's why I want you to focus on the present, even if the present doesn't look that good” Evra said in a video shared on Twitter.
