  • Respected Ghanaian sports journalist Saddick Adams has deflated the hopes of ex-Black Stars players seeking to vie for the GFA presidency
  • He cited Drogba as an example in his advice to the ex-footballers arguing being a legend does not guarantee automatic success in such elections
  • Drogba was recently subjected to a crushing defeat in the Ivorian Football Federation presidential elections, where he managed only 21 votes out of 131 votes cast

Ex-Ghanaian footballers nursing the ambitions of becoming the next Ghana Football Association president have been told being a legend does not guarantee them divine rights to assume the highest office in Ghana football.

Since Samuel Eto'o assumed office as the president of the Cameroon Football Federation, many ex-footballers have been urged to gun for such top positions owing to their practical involvement in the sport.

But award-winning Ghanaian sports journalist Saddick Adams has burst the bubble of the former internationals seeking to walk in the footsteps of Samuel Eto'o.

Saddick Adams affectionately called Sports Obama did not mince words in his advice to the erstwhile Black Stars players citing Didier Drogba's shocking defeat in the Ivorian FA elections as a case study.

"Drogba didn't have a connection with the clubs despite his legendary status and that is why he lost, so I will use that to advise the ex-Ghanaian footballers who aspire to be GFA boss," Saddick said on Angel TV as quoted by Ghanaweb.
"I'm using this to advise the ex-Ghana footballers that being a legend does not mean that you can contest either Kurt Okraku or George Afriyie in the GFA presidential elections and win," he ended.

Erstwhile Ghana internationals such as three-time African footballer of the year Abedi Ayew, Bayern Munich legend Samuel Osei Kuffour and quite recently Asamoah Gyan have been urged to vie for the GFA presidency.

Premier League Hall of Famer Didier Drogba suffers embarrassing defeat in Ivorian FA elections

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ivorian and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba was dealt a crushing blow to his presidential aspirations following his loss in the recently held Ivorian Football Federation presidential elections last Saturday.

The former skipper of the Ivory Coast was tipped to follow in the footsteps of four-time African footballer of the year, Samuel Eto'o.

However, what ensued in the elections did not go according to the script with Drogba suffering a loss in the first round of the elections.
