  • With the 2021/22 South African football season about to end, the work that Orlando Pirates co-coaches Fadlu Davids and Mandla Ncikazi have done is about to be reviewed
  • The duo was appointed earlier in the season after German mentor Josef Zinnbauer and the club parted ways amicably
  • It has been something of a mixed bag under their tutelage, with highs and lows at almost every corner, though the season could end on a magnificent high

The divisive duo of Orlando Pirates co-coaches Fadlu Davids and Mandla Ncikazi won't go down wondering no matter what their future holds.

The two have come under constant criticism in their time at the helm of the Buccaneers since Josef Zinnbauer called it quits after just one game into the season back in August last year.

Though, as Kick Off reported, they have ticked all the important boxes during their time in charge. Pirates was never really in the running to win the DStv Premiership, considering how inconsistent the team has been during the campaign coupled with a relentless Mamelodi Sundowns to contend with.

The team sits in fifth place on 39 points, and six points behind Royal AM in an unexpectedly lofty second place on 45 points. Bucs has to deal with Cape Town City (third, 40 points) and Kaizer Chiefs (fourth, 39 points) in trying to either finish second (automatic CAF Champions League qualification) or third (Confederations Cup qualification)

It remains to be seen if finishing runners-up could strengthen their hand if management is considering them for an extension of contract. Also, the Confederations Cup could play a key part in whether Davids and Ncikazi are kept on.

Pirates is in the semifinals of the tournament, where they will take on Al Ahly Tripoli of Libya next month. Winning the competition will make the Buccaneers the first South African team to complete the full set of the Champions League, Confederations Cup and African Super Cup.

This will also guarantee them a place in Africa's premier club competition next season, a nice financial windfall to accompany the one Pirates got by reaching the last four in the secondary one.

Fiery Orlando Pirates coach Mandla Ncikazi fires more shots at Simba SC after Confederations Cup victory

Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi continued his war of words with Simba SC.

As was reported by Sports Brief, Pirates defeated Simba 4-3 on penalties after the CAF Confederations Cup quarterfinal tie ended 1-1.

Last week's defeat in Dar es Salaam left a bitter taste in Ncikazi's mouth, leading him to criticise the Tanzanian club, which the latter did not take kindly to.
