  • Freedom Day tomorrow will see an action-packed afternoon of DStv Premiership matches with consequences
  • Mamelodi Sundowns' cakewalk to a fifth consecutive league title could conclude then, with just one point needed to seal the deal
  • Elsewhere, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will be breaking far more sweat than the Brazilians chasing the promise of African video

The one-horse race to the DStv Premiership title looks set to finish tomorrow afternoon on Freedom Day.

Mamelodi Sundowns have shown ruthless disregard for the rest of the other teams' rights to dream about winning the title. It was never in doubt that they'd win it for a fifth consecutive time, and need just a point to be confirmed as champions once again.

The Brazilians will take on Cape Town City at 7.30pm for their coronation, sitting on 57 points. The Cityzens (40 points) will definitely be up for this match, as the third-placed visitors are five points off Royal AM with two games in hand on Thwihli Twahla.

First on the menu, though, is Golden Arrows (ninth, 32 points) hosting Kaizer Chiefs (fourth, 39 points) at 3pm. Like City, Chiefs needs the full-house of points if interim coach Arthur Zwane's dream of playing in the CAF Champions League again next season is to be realised. Arrows will be motivated by climbing into the often-targeted Top 8.

Later at 5pm, Orlando Pirates (fifth, 39 points) welcomes Chippa United (12th, 25 points). The equation is simple for Pirates: the only hope of returning to the Champions League is by either finishing second, or winning the Confederations Cup they have reached the semifinals of, with both scenarios proving enticing either way.

It's in Chippa's best interest to win this one so that they don't find themselves dragged unexpectedly into the relegation dog fight.

Mamelodi Sundowns chase another piece of history, need a single point to wrap up Premier Soccer League title

Mamelodi Sundowns are on the verge of cementing their place in South African football history.

As reported on Sports Brief, Masandawana are in need of just one point to secure their fifth consecutive Premier League Soccer title.

Sundowns currently hold the record for consecutive league titles won at four.
