  • Football expert Ebenezer Sefa believes the pursuit of Mohammed Salisu should be time-bound with the 2023 AFCON qualifiers on the horizon
  • Coach Sefa believes if the Southampton is not willing to commit his international future with Ghana by May, the pursuit by the GFA should cease in order to channel efforts toward players who are ready to wear the national team colours
  • Salisu, who has experienced a dip in form in recent times, scored an own goal in Southampton's latest defeat in the English elite division

Highly-respected football scout and coach Ebenezer Sefa has urged the Ghana Football Association to provide timelines in their pursuit of Southampton centre-half Mohammed Salisu.

The left-footed defender has declined calls to play for the Black Stars on numerous occasions despite frantic attempts made by the football federation.

Weighing in on the Salisu's pursuit, coach Sefa believes an ultimatum should be issued for the chase of the 22-year-old central defender if he continues to remain coy about joining the Black Stars.

“At least we still have more months before the World Cup. If he’s ready to come and play fine, if he’s not ready we should have confidence in those who are there. I’m not saying we should drop our pursuit of him but there should be a limit." Coach Sefa told Luv FM as quoted by myjoyonline.
He added: "There should be a time limit. If by May when we start our AFCON qualifiers, if we play Angola and that young man has not made up his mind, we should forget about him and concentrate on those who are ready to play because from that time to November when the World Cup starts, we need to focus.”

Ebenezer Sefa, who has scouted for most of the top clubs in the Ghana Premier League, cited other quality players who were no longer considered for national team duties, yet the country thrived.

“I mean Ginola never played for the French National team after he was dropped by Gerard Houllier; Cantona did not play again for France after then-coach Henri Michel dropped him for misconduct. And these were quality players,” Coach Sefa stressed.

Ex-Ghana international says the Black Stars will need Salisu at the 2022 World Cup

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ex-Ghana international Sam Johnson believes the Black Stars will need the services of Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu at the forthcoming World Cup in Qatar.

Discussions of the relevance of Mohammed Salisu to the national team have been rife following Ghana's qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

With many divided on whether the 22-year-old towering defender should be invited for the Mundial, a former Black Stars defender has weighed into the discourse.
