Gabriel Jesus netted four goals as Manchester City thrashed Watford 5-1 to go four points clear at the top of the table.
The Brazilian, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal, was in rampant form as he netted a brace in the first half to set his side on course for victory.
City were ahead inside four minutes as Jesus turned in Oleksandr Zinchenko's cross, and he doubled his side’s lead through a header from Kevin de Bruyne’s cross.
Watford gave themselves some slight hope as Hassane Kamara reduced the deficit but City obce again reestablished their 2-goal advantage through Rodri’s powerful strike.
Pep Guardiola had earlier on stated that his side could not afford any mistakes in their remaining fixtures and City were out to prove a point as they kept going at Watford in the second half.
A mistake by Kamara early in the second half allowed Jesus to have a run at goal and the Brazilian was felled by Ben Foster for a penalty.
After a lengthy VAR check, Jesus smashed home the resulting spot kick to complete his treble.
The Brazilian still had another goal in him as he latched onto another Kevin de Bruyne pass to score the fourth of the afternoon.
City now move to 80 points, and will enjoy a four point lead over Liverpool at least for the next 24 hours as Jurgen Klopp’s side prepares for the Merseyside derby against Everton on Sunay.
