- The Brazilian, 25, has been linked with a move to Arsenal, who are in the market for attacking options
- Arsenal are set to lose Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah for free when the pair’s contracts run out at the end of the season
Arsenal have emerged as surprise favourites to land Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus.
Mikel Arteta’s side are looking to bolster their attack in the summer, especially with the impending exit of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah.
Both strikers have their deals running out at the end of the season, and there are no signs of possible renewal.
With their exits, Arteta will be left only with Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel Martinelli as central attacking options.
The Athletic, as quoted by Daily Mail, reports that the North London side has flirted with the idea of acquiring Jesus, 25, from Manchester City.
It is understood that Arsenal’s technical director Edu has been engaging in silent talks with the Brazilian’s representatives for months, and Arteta would not mind taking up his services, having worked with him at Manchester City when he was Pep Guardiola’s number 2.
Jesus has been quite stable at Manchester City, although his current deal at the Etihad expires in 2023, and there have been no talks of renewing it.
His goal return has been a bit underwhelming for City this season, as he has managed to net just three times in 16 Premier League appearances so far.
The fact that Manchester City are seriously considering moving for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland could also signal the end of Jesus’ spell at the club.
Haaland closing in on Man City deal
As Sports Brief reported, Haaland has been courted by Europe’s top clubs and it is now understood that a deal with City is imminent.
