Big blow for Arsenal as important midfielder could miss rest of the season
FootballWest Ham Star Kurt Zouma’s Court Date Set Months After Cat Kicking Video
- Kurt Zouma's case against his cats to start officially on May 24th
- Zouma was filmed kicking his cats in a viral video that generated a lot criticism
- Court date comes six days after West Ham's potential Europa League final
The court date for West Ham’s player Kurt Zouma has been confirmed for May 24th. Zouma is involved in a tussle with legal authorities after he was filmed kicking his cat.
The video, that was filmed by his younger brother Yoan, received widespread backlash and condemnation. The French defender is scheduled to appear before Barkingside Magistrates in what could be a distracting factor for West Ham’s season.
The Hammers have a potential Europa League final on May 18th, 6 days before Zouma’s appearance in court. They play Eintracht Frankfurt in the semifinals for a chance to compete in their first European final in over 40 years.
He will be charged under the Animal Welfare Act. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) took away Zouma’s cats for safe protection.
Zouma apologized, saying that he was “deeply sorry.” He was fined his two weeks’ pay but Moyes stuck with him and played him often despite calls to have the 27-yer-old dropped.
Out with ankle injury
Zouma has been an integral part of David Moyes’ side since making the switch from Chelsea. He has been the cornerstone of the defence that strolled into the Europa League last four. He is however currently out with an ankle injury sustained in the 2-0 loss to Brentford two weeks ago.
Moyes believes that he can make it back in time for the Europa League final. West Ham will take on either Rangers or RB Leipzig in the final that will be played in Seville, Spain.
With West Ham’s hope of finishing in the top four quickly diminishing, the London outfit will firmly believe that a Europa League triumph is their best bet of qualifying for Europe’s elite competition. They are currently in 7th position with 52 points.
