Legendary Ghanaian footballer Stephen Appiah has fingered a former Juventus Director as one of the most corrupt and 'powerful' people in football and 'did worse than Sepp Blatter' by influencing games of rivals.
According to Appiah, Luciano Moggi, the former Director of Football at Juventus had huge roles in how results went in games of AC Milan and Inter Milan, who were then their main rivals.
The former Black Stars captain was speaking to EMY Africa Magazine when he made the revelation about Moggi and how Juventus got caught in the Calciopoli scandal.
‘‘People don’t know Moggi. Not even the investigators. He was the most powerful man at the time. Look, he was even more powerful than Sepp Blatter – then FIFA President. He did things even Blatter wouldn’t dare do," Stephen Appiah said as quoted by Asaaseradio.com.
"Milan and Inter were our biggest threats at the time. Lazio and Roma were good but they didn’t have any pedigree. So Milan and Inter. Yet, Moggi could influence our rivals and their matches. It could be through their opponents, refs. I mean the Calciopoli lifted the lid on some of that," he added.
The first player to lead Ghana to the World Cup joined Juventus in 2003 from Parma.
Stephen Appiah spent two glorious campaign with the Old Ladies, winning several titles including the Serie A before moving to Fenerbache in 2005.
