Liverpool's comfortable win saw them complete a double over United this season - with a combined aggregate victory of 9-0.

Jurgen Klopp's charges had earlier in the season demolished Man United 5-0 at Old Trafford before following up the result with a 4-0 win at Anfield last night.

Man United set worrying Premier League record after Liverpool defeat

According to Goal, the combined 9-0 loss is the most Manchester United have ever conceded against a single opponent over the course of a league season since the inception of the current Premier League three decades ago.

Further, the scoreline is also the heaviest United have ever suffered against a single opponent in a season since 1892-93.

The last time the Old Trafford dwellers tasted such a heavy scoreline loss was in 1892 after a combined 11-0 defeat against Sunderland.

How Liverpool defeated Man United at Anfield

Man United headed into the Anfield trip without a number of key players including their weekend hat-trick hero, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo was allowed to miss the clash after he lost his newborn son on Monday, April 18.

However, that did not stop Liverpool from winning the clash as Mohamed Salah netted a brace to inspire the Reds to victory.

Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane also found the back of the net during the clash to condemn United to a comprehensive defeat.
