- According to the Argentine, he is intent on helping the club clinch the Champions League
Mauricio Pochettiino has strongly hinted at staying at Paris Saint Germain longer, despite speculation surrounding his future.
The Argentine has had an underwhelming spell as a PSG boss, particularly in the Champions League, and this has fueled fan discontent.
PSG are currently 15 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 and could clinch the title as early as Tuesday.
After another Champions League failure this season, sections of fans have called on changes to be made in the club’s hierarchy.
But in an interesting twist, Pochettino was quizzed on the prospects of signing a new deal with the French giants, to which he replied:
"It is not about desire, it is about the contract,"
"During my time here, I have always said that one of the main targets is to win the Champions League, so when you don't do that, it is a big disappointment at the club,"
"That goes back in history as the club still hasn't won the Champions League.
"We want to achieve the target of winning Ligue 1. Once we have done that, it will be the right time to look ahead for what is best for the team and the club."
Protests
In recent matches, PSG fans have made their feelings clear about the club, saying they want changes right from the boardroom.
But PSG players including Marquinhos have criticize the protests, saying they were ill-timed.
Pochettino also echoed Marquinhos’ sentiments, adding that there was a need for ‘things to be corrected’.
