Former AC Milan attacking midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has disclosed how the birth of his first son changed his career as a footballer.
The Ghana international started his career in the Bundesliga in 2005 and later spent years in England, Italy, Spain and Turkey.
Boateng returned to the German topflight in June 2021 after signing for Hertha Berlin. He featured for Felix Magath's side in their 1-0 victory over struggling Augsburg at the WWK Arena on Sunday, 17th April.
Boateng played 69 minutes for his relegation-threatened side as they recorded their first away triumph in over five months.
The 35-year-old has proven that age is just a number despite his career with Hertha Berlin being threatened by niggling injuries.
According to the forward, the birth of his first child helped him reevaluate his life choices and reach such teams as AC Milan and Barcelona.
Boateng and his first wife Jennifer Michelle gave birth to their first son Jermaine-Prince Boateng in 2007.
Boateng reckons many young players are badly influenced by the money they make off football.
"When I was young, I was crazy. At 18 years old, I thought I was the boss in my neighbourhood because I had money," Boateng told La Vanguardia via Tribuna.
"Then I had a child and it made me mature and without that happening, I wouldn't have played for teams like Milan or Barcelona.
"In London, I was 20 years old and you go out partying and eat badly. When you're young, if you don't play you don't really care because you have money and your friends all tell you that you are a phenomenon."
