Sundowns took the lead in the fifth minute but were pegged back in the 16th. The home side then took the lead just before halftime, Sowetan LIVE reported.

The second goal has fans pointing fingers at the 36-year-old Ugandan keeper though.

Onyango failed to hold a cheeky scorpion kick before halftime, pushing it into the path of Yano who made no mistake in dispatching it into the roof of the net.

Fans were quick to pinpoint that moment as the reason why they lost, Goal.com reported.

Fans also took to social media to ask that Sundowns play Kennedy Mween for the return leg in South Africa, as they had no faith in Onyango.

Here’s what Sundowns’ fans had to say:

@77Fans2:

"Dennis Onyango was a wrong choice ...the guy has bad luck for CCL even the 2016 champions league final, our hero was Sandilands."

@TheRealNtera:

"Okay Admin mara I think our favorite legend Dennis Onyango it's time for him to retire now and give other young Goalkeepers a chance please"

@sundownsfutbol:

"Denis Onyango is always responsible for us being knocked out of the Champions League. ALWAYS. He is really costing us!"

@JeleJele89:

"#Sundowns Dennis Onyango is our weakest link especially at this stage of the tournament. Please rest the man and play Mweene. As fans we want to play in the final of CAFCL @komphelasteve @coach_rulani please consider."

Mamelodi Sundowns suffer defeat to Petro de Luanda, Video Assistant Referee denies Masandawana an equaliser

Mamelodi Sundowns will feel hard done by a late Video Assistant Referee decision which saw them suffer their first CAF Champions League defeat. Masandawana were beaten by Angola's Petro de Luanda 2-1 away from home but were denied a late equaliser due to VAR.

Lyle Lakay gave Mamelodi Sundowns the perfect start when he scored in the first five minutes. The South African defender produced one of his trademark freekicks, which deflected the wall to find its way into the back of the net.

Petro de Luanda equalised ten minutes later when Tiago Azulāo finished smartly from close range. The rest of the first half resembled a pinball game as both sides had numerous chances to take the lead, Sports Brief reported.
