Black Maidens Record 3:1 Victory over Guinea to Take a Step Closer to World Cup

The Black Maidens of Ghana are on the verge of qualifying for the World Cup appearance after thumping Guinea in the first leg of the qualifiers.

The Ghana U-17 side recorded a 3-1 away victory in Conakry to put one foot at the Women’s U-17 World Cup.

Coach Baba Nuhu’s side will face their Guinean counterparts next two weekends for the reverse fixture in Cape Coast.

Black Maidens started the game on a bright note after captain Georgina Ayisha Aoyem slotted home from close range to open the scoring.

A brilliant long range effort from Rasheeda Shahadu in the 31st minute handed the Maidens their second goal of the afternoon.

Guinea pulled one back just two minutes after recess but the Maidens grabbed another goal through Mariama Maltiti Iddi to cement their two-goal advantage heading into the return leg.

The return leg of the third round qualifying encounter is scheduled for Cape Coast on Saturday, April 30.

A victory over two legs means the Black Maidens will advance to the 2022 World Cup.

Ghana U20 coach Karim Zito reveals why players don't honour Black Stars invite

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Coach of Ghana's U20 national team, Karim Zito has pointed out the media's lack of confidence in players invited to the national team as one of the reasons for their refusal to honour call ups.

Several Ghanaian players have turned down invitations for international assignments in recent times, with the likes of Mohammed Salisu and Felix Afena-Gyan coming to the fore.

Karim Zito, who led the Black Satellites to AFCON U20 triumph, also disclosed that insults is another huge factor that deters the players.
