Ex Barcelona Star Hilariously Narrates how He Had to Ask Current Wife 20 Times to Date Him

Sevilla star Ivan Rakitic has shared a hilarious account of how he met his wife, and It makes for quite an interesting tale.

According to the former Barcelona man, he had to ask his current partner out 20-30 times before she finally gave in.

Rakitic is currently with stunning influencer Raquel Mauri, but getting the Spaniard to like him was an uphill task.

He first noticed her when he moved from Schalke to Sevilla in 2011, but his lack of prowess in the Spanish language was a huge obstacle for him.

"I don't know how to explain it... Whenever I saw her, it was like a bomb went off inside me," Rakitic told The Players' Tribune.

"Week after week, I slowly started to learn some Spanish words, and if I was struggling, I would use my hands a lot to try to explain what I was trying to say to her.

Quite hilariously, Mauri showed her sense of humour during their courting stage as she referenced the famous Disney animation Tarzan to poke fun at the midfielder.

"She thought that was funny. She was like, "Me... Jane. You... Tarzan."

Furthermore, once Mauri started to warm up to Rakitic, there was another concern – the fact that he was a football player.

Rakitic goes on to explain that he Mauri was skeptical about dating him because of footballers’ tendency to transfer to different leagues in different countries.

As a result, he made a point of establishing himself as a crucial part of the Sevilla squad.

"Part of my motivation when I went to training was to establish myself in the squad so that I would be around for a while and this girl would finally have dinner with me. It literally took me seven months."

Eventually, Mauri agreed to go out with him to lunch, and the rest is history.
