Former African footballer of the year, Didier Drogba was met by a huge crowd after his candidacy was approved for the Ivorian Football Association elections.

The ex-Chelsea star will be competing for the top job with Yatte Ellele Jean-Baptiste, Arnaud Aka, Laurent Kouakou, Idriss Diallo, Sory Diabate.

In a video posted on Twitter, fans of the former Ivory Coast star sang and chanted his name as they wished him well ahead of the elections.

Drogba cleared to contest for Ivorian Football Federation presidency

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that African legend Didier Drogba will go head-to-head with five other candidates in vying for the position of the Ivorian Football Federation president, African News reports.

The country’s football body, FIF, announced on Sunday that a total of six candidates have been registered for the coveted seat.

Mariam Dao Gabala, president of the FIF normalisation committee, at a press conference named the candidates as Yatte Ellele Jean-Baptiste, Arnaud Aka, Laurent Kouakou, Idriss Diallo, Sory Diabate, and Didier Drogba.
