Victor Wanyama Wins Prestigious Award After Shining for Montreal Impact

Victor Wanyama was in the best form of his life as he inspired CF Montreal Impact to a 2-1 comeback victory over New York Red Bulls in a Major Soccer League fixture on Saturday, April 9.

The Kenyan midfielder's versatility in the middle of the park proved vital, especially in the second half of the match as Montreal Impact staged a dramatic comeback to secure the three points.

Buoyed by the home support, it was the New York Red Bulls who took an early lead, with Omir Guadalupe Fernandez Mosso firing the opener in the 14th minute.

Victor Wanyama wins Man of the Match award

However, the hosts were unable to protect the lead as Wanyama's Montreal were able to stage a comeback after the break as they scored two goals in a space of 10 minutes to secure victory.

Rudy Camacho drew one back for Montreal Impact in the 71st minute before second-half substitute Romell Quioto won it for the visitors with nine minutes left on the clock.

Wanyama was pivotal in the victory as he bossed the midfield to guide his side to victory.

His performance earned him the Man of the Match award, with Montreal boss Wilfried Nancy attributing the win to "team spirit."

"The result today [Saturday] is a consequence of the team spirit within the club. The players believe in the project and the style of play," he said as quoted by Goal.

Olunga included in Champions League squad

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Michael Olunga is part of Al-Duhail's 23-man squad named by new coach Hernan Crespo for the AFC Champions League.

Al-Duhail will be facing Saudi Arabian runners up Al Taawoun, Uzbekistan champions Pakhtakor and Iranian league runners up Sepahan in the group stages of the competition.

The Qatari outfit will kick off their continental assignment against Al-Taawoun on Thursday, April 7.
