Bayern Munich legend Arjen Robben has completed his first ever marathon over the weekend.
Robben hung up his boot for the second time last year July after featuring for his boyhood club Groningen.
However, in a bid to keep himself active and fit, the joined thousands of runners to participate in the annual Rotterdam Marathon on Sunday.
In a video posted on Twitter, as spotted by Sports Brief, the former Chelsea winger locked a remarkable time of three hours, 13 minutes and 40 seconds, losing 69 minutes to the winner of the competition, Abdi Nageya.
After the race, Robben told Rijnmon, as quoted by Goal.
“It was not very fun. I did it, but that’s it. It was a real fight. At the beginning, I was worried about the final time, but at a certain point it ceased to matter,”
"That audience on the side helps you so much. Thanks to everyone for that, that got me through. In the beginning I was a bit preoccupied with a time, but at a certain point you throw that overboard.
"Then it's surviving and entering my first marathon. Then you notice what something like that does to your body, but I made it.”
Arjen Robben planning to come out retirement to play for boyhood club
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben plans to make a shock U turn from retirement to play for his boyhood club FC Groningen.
