FootballFormer Manchester United Defender Sends Strong Message to Ralf Rangnick Over Captain Harry Maguire
- Harry Maguire once again performed poorly as Manchester United suffered another loss in the Premier League
- Everton defeated the Red Devils over the weekend in a game that has left Man Utd fans upset with their captain
- Former club defender Nemanja Matic has disclosed that Maguire has lost confidence and urged the manager not to start him in big games
Ex-Manchester United star Nemanja Vidic is not impressed with Harry Maguire’s recent performances and has urged Ralf Rangnick to bench the captain in tougher games, Football365 reports.
Vidic believes the England international lacks confidence and that until he recovers, the player should only feature in easier matches.
Maguire has been unimpressive in recent times as Manchester United occupy the seventh position on the Premier League standings having won just one of their last seven matches in all competitions.
The club captain has continued to receive heavy criticism and was even booed during international duty with England, and now Vidic suggests the player is not ready for big games.
He told The Athletic:
“Every player has a problem with form at some time in his career. I did and it’s clear that Maguire is not at his best this season. I think you can do a few things and one of them is not to play every match as you try to find form again and get confidence.
“A coach could play him in easier games, not that there are many in the Premier League, and take him out for harder matches.
“The player needs to feel powerful and strong on the pitch again, not as it is now where he feels that it’s not happening for him. It’s difficult to play well when you’re under so much pressure because people are waiting for you to make a mistake.
“You’re asking me this and I’m replying as a coach. It’s not a problem if a player says to his coach that he’s not feeling great on the pitch.

Football“If he says: ‘Give me a break, give me a couple of weeks to regroup and train well and then play again’. I had some horrible games for United and needed to find my peace and grow again.”
Donny van de Beek welcomes first child
Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that Man United midfielder Donny van de Beek has welcomed his first child with his partner Estelle Bergkamp.
Van de Beek, who is currently on loan with Everton, announced back in November 2021 that he and Estelle were expecting a baby together.
And nearly four months later, the Dutchman has announced the birth of his first child with Estelle.
