Thomas Tuchel has revealed he had to binge on chocolate after a sleepless night in the wake of Chelsea’s crushing defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final.

Ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Southampton, Tuchel said at a press conference on Thursday that he had a sleepless night after the defeat, and resorted to a guilty pleasure to cope with the disappointment.

“But the feeling lasted. I watched the match again and got angry at home in the middle of the night, and the next morning I watched it again - and got angry again. I was not THAT angry - the dog was safe. But the amount of chocolate I needed to go through the match again was immense.” Tuchel said as quoted by Express.
“To stay angry overnight is unusual. Sometimes I’m angry during a match or at half-time. After a game I normally decide not to speak too much if I’m not happy.

The German gaffer admitted his side has an uphill task in rediscovering their form, with the Saturday game against the Saints coming just days before a showdown against Real Madrid in Spain.

After a thumping defeat to Brentford in their last Premier League outing, Chelsea is now only five points ahead of fourth-placed Tottenham with nine games of the season to go.

Despite alarm bells over Chelsea’s form, Tuchel remains confident the London club will finish in the top four.

“I am absolutely confident we will make the top four, but it is never a given.” He added.
