- Pinnick, who is set to complete his second tenure in the 'glasshouse' has stated that he will not be contesting for a third term
- The Delta State-born football administrator noted that although he is eligible to contest, the role is taking a toll on him
The president of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick has ruled out vying for a third term when his current tenure expires, Vanguard reports.
Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the football administrator has been heavily criticised by some fans who are asking for his resignation.
And there had been rumours that the Delta State football stakeholder is nursing an ambition to run for a third term in the same capacity.
Pinnick, on Friday, however, debunked the report saying his time in the glasshouse has taken a toll on his relationship with his family. He told Arise TV:
“I’m eligible to run based on the status. Do I want to run?, It’s a no no, my family is very key to me, they said it’s taking a toll on me and the family.
"They believed that I’ve done my best and it’s time to move on. It’s a regrettable decision, but it’s the best."
The Delta State-born football administrator has been in charge of football in the country since 2014.
Senate summons Pinnick, Sunday Dare over World Cup miss
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate has summoned the NFF President Amaju Pinnick and Minister for Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, to appear before it over vandalisation of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Irate fans, as well as hoodlums, ripped apart the facility shortly after Ghana picked up the World Cup ticket at the expense of Nigeria.
Having played a goalless draw in Kumasi, victory would have taken Nigeria to the global showpiece, but the Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw as Ghana qualified courtesy of the away goal rule.
