Kaizer Chiefs stands to raise around R20 million for its transfer war chest ahead of the 2022/23 season.

After last winning a trophy in 2015, various members are expected to be offloaded at the end of the season in May by the Amakhosi. This would help the club greatly when it goes on a recruitment drive in trying to cure the seven-year-long itch for silverware.

According to KickOff, Leonardo Castro and Lazarous Kambole are on the way out. With both players' contracts expiring at the end of June, their release will free up around R10 million due to their current wages.

Castro is on a package of between R7-8 million while Kambole is on between R2-3 million. Veteran striker Bernard Parker, who earns over R5 million a season and whose contract also ends in June, is another who is believed to be parting ways with Chiefs.

Packages include salaries, signing-on fees, bonuses, accommodation, and flights, among other extras included in the contract. These are normally determined by the input a player makes through the season, with strikers having to score a certain of goals to get extra bonuses and all their signing-on fees.

There is also a percentage appearance figure which activates the payment of signing-on fees depending on the contracts agreed between club and player.

Other players whose contracts conclude at the end of the season include Kearyn Baccus, Daniel Akpeyi, Daniel Cardoso, Lebogang Manyama and Ramahlwe Mphahlele.

Kaizer Chiefs have an eight-day break until their next DStv Premiership fixture, and coach Stuart Baxter doesn’t know what to expect.

As reported by Sports Brief, the Amakhosi will host SuperSport United on Saturday, 16 April, and it will be the first game that Kaizer Chiefs fans will be in attendance.

Baxter said that he cannot predict the reception he will receive from Amakhosi fans when they return to stadiums, but he was hopeful that it will be a peaceful, loving and supportive attitude.
