FootballGeorge Maluleka Enjoying a Rich Vein of Form at Mamelodi Sundowns, Receives Praise From Coach Manqoba Mngqithi
- Midfielder George Maluleka is hitting his stride at the right time in the season for Mamelodi Sundowns
- George Maluleka has scored one goal and has provided three assists for Mamelodi Sundowns in his last two games
- Co-coach, Manqoba Mngqithi and club legend, Roger Feutmba, have praised George Maluleka for his performances of late
George Maluleka is proving all his doubters wrong and justifying why Mamelodi Sundowns lured him away from Kaizer Chiefs.
The 33-year-old midfielder has struggled for game time at Masandawana since his move from the Amakhosi in 2020 but seems to have found a rich vein of form of late.
Mido scored his first goal for Sundowns during their victory over Al Merreikh in their last CAF Champions League game and provided an assist as well. He then followed that up with two assists for Peter Shalulile in their win over Swallows.
His performances of late have since earned the praise of former club legends and his current co-coach, Manqoba Mngqithi. Mngqithi has praised the impact the player has had since returning to the midfield, KickOff reported
"In the previous match, George Maluleka scored a goal and got an assist and this time around he also got an assist and that's very positive," Mngqithi said.
"He is one player we believe has got some quality to help the team but his commitment and willingness to improve is shown and is very clear, and that is very encouraging to us,"
Former club legend, Roger Feutmba, has also shared his thoughts on the midfielder’s upturn in form, Soccer Laduma noted.
"George is a very professional player, he has been professional throughout his career. It is unfortunate that he plays for a team that has so many quality players. He has shown his class way before joining Sundowns. He used to make Kaizer Chiefs tick and having him at Downs, has always been a great addition.”
Maluleka’s recent brilliant performances are coming at the right time for Sundowns. Masandawana takes on Summerfield Dynamos in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday, before turning their attention to Golden Arrows in the DStv Premiership next week Tuesday. They then play Petro de Luanda in the CAF Champions League just four days later.

The Namibian striker, Shalulile, has now scored 18 goals in the DStv Premiership this season and recorded the first hattrick of the season. Numerous other players have scored braces this season, but never three goals.
Sundowns got off to the perfect start with Shalulile scoring twice in 16 minutes. The Namibian was lethal in front of goal and punished any Swallows’ mistake. Swallows hit back immediately and Dillon Solomons scored a minute after Shalulile’s second.
