Kelechi Nwakali has finally broken his silence hours after being sacked by Spanish second division side SD Huesca with the Nigerian claiming that his contract was terminated because he went to the 2021 AFCON with Super Eagles.

The former Arsenal player explained that SD Huesca sporting director Ruben Garcia was not happy with the invitation he got to represent Nigeria at the 2021 African Cup of Nations.

Nwakali claimed that Garcia did all he could to block him from traveling out of Spain and when all efforts were futile, the sporting director vowed that he won't play for the club again.

The 23-year-old stressed that he told SD Huesca that he would never turn down the chance to play for the Super Eagles regardless any condition and this infuriated Garcia.

According to the official statement Nwakali posted on his official Twitter account, the Nigerian stated that he would not have voiced out if SD Huesca had not taken their decision.

Kelechi Nwakali's reaction to sacking at SD Huesca

''SD Huesca sporting director Ruben Garcia put extreme pressure on me not to go to 2021 AFCON with Super Eagles saying the competition was not important, but I cannot reject the chance to play for Nigeria.
''He told me that I will never play for the club again if I should go to Cameroon with the Super Eagles.''

Did Kelechi Nwakali play for Nigeria at the AFCON?

Kelechi Nwakali only played against Guinea-Bissau and missed the round of 16 clash against Tunisia due to illness.

Augustine Eguavoen says Ndidi’s absence affected Nigeria in World Cup Play-offs

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how immediate-past Super Eagles manager Augustine Eguavoen fingered Wilfred Ndidi's absence from the World Cup doubleheader against Ghana as one of the contributing factors which led to Nigeria's failure to book a ticket to Qatar 2022.

Ndidi was initially included in Eguavoen's list to face Ghana, however, an injury suffered during a Europa Conference League game in the build-up to the big game ruled him out of the contest.

In his absence, Nigeria suffered heartbreak in Abuja when Ghana qualified to the global showpiece on the away goal rule in a pulsating 1-1 draw at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

Recounting what led to Nigeria's inability to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Eguavoen identified Ndidi's absence as one of the major reasons.
