FootballNFF Sacks Amuneke, Joseph Yobo and Entire Member of Super Eagles Technical Crew After Eguavoen Resigned
- Emmanuel Amuneke and other members of the Super Eagles technical crew have all been relieved of their duties by the Nigeria Football Federation
- The technical crew, led by Augustine Eguavoen, were saddled with the responsibility of qualifying for the World Cup, but they failed
- The Super Eagles were forced to a 1-1 draw in Abuja by the Black Stars, which means Ghana are through to the World Cup in Qatar
The Nigeria Football Federation has relieved all members of the Super Eagles technical crew including Emmanuel Amuneke after the team failed to secure World Cup qualification.
Technical Adviser of the team Augustine Eguavoen earlier tendered his resignation to the football house, and now the NFF has told other members of the technical crew to leave with immediate effect.
In February 2022, the NFF Board approved a recommendation of the technical and development committee by retaining Augustine Eguavoen as technical director/technical adviser (interim) while Emmanuel Amuneke became the Chief Coach of the Super Eagles.
Salisu Yusuf was then drafted as the 2nd assistant coach/chief coach of the CHAN team, while former team captain Joseph Yobo was named 3rd assistant - with Aloysius Agu retaining his position as the goalkeepers’ trainer.
They were all saddled with the responsibility of qualifying Nigeria for the 2022 FIFA World Cup against Ghana in the play-offs.
Following a barren draw at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, the Super Eagles were forced to a 1-1 draw in Abuja and Ghana qualified courtesy of the away goals rule.
Eguavoen stepped down from that position following the World Cup debacle and the NFF has been forced to relieve other members of the technical crew.
The NFF has withdrawn the two-and-half-year contract offered to the coaches and terminated the appointment of the entire technical crew of the team with immediate effect.
A new crew will be announced after a proper review to lead the new charge of reinvigorating the Super Eagles to face future challenges appropriately.

Sports Minister condemns vandalisation of Abuja Stadium
Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that Nigeria’s Sports Minister Sunday Dare has condemned the vandalisation of the Abuja Stadium following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
Sunday Dare stated that in sports, nothing is 100 per cent certain and that the Federal Government gave every support for the Super Eagles to qualify.
As soon as the referee sounded the final whistle, irate fans stormed the pitch in an attempt to destroy everything in sight, which has been condemned by the Sports Minister.
