Ex-Bayern Munich defender Jerome Agyenim Boateng has applauded the efforts of the Black Stars following their qualification to Qatar 2022.

The German-born central defender, who is of Ghanaian parentage, reconnected to his roots on the back of Ghana's incredible feat in Abuja.

Ghana booked their fourth appearance at the FIFA World Cup at the expense of sworn rivals Nigeria in a nerve-shredding encounter staged at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

The 2014 World Cup winner, who is the younger brother of Kevin-Prince Boateng, took to Twitter to applaud Ghana for booking one of Africa's five World Cup tickets.

How did Ghana book World Cup ticket under the noses of Nigeria?

Nigeria dominated the early exchanges at the Moshood Abiola Stadium but was stunned in the 10th minute when Thomas Partey's shot beat Francis Uzoho in goal to give the Black Stars a 1-0 lead.

The Super Eagles responded almost immediately as Williams Troost-Ekong equalized from the penalty spot after Ademola Lookman was fouled inside the Ghanaian 18-yard box.

Victor Osihmen thought he had given Nigeria the lead after putting the ball in the net late in the first half but the Napoli man's strike was chalked off after a VAR check after he was found offside.

The second half was largely uneventful as the Black Stars showed character and hunger as they prevented the Super Eagles from creating any meaningful opportunity to turn around the tie.

Loss for Nigeria means the Super Eagles have now failed to progress to the 2022 FIFA World Cup after a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations.

Stephen Appiah, Dede Ayew congratulate the Black Stars for qualifying for the 2022 World Cup

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that legendary Ghanaian footballer Stephen Appiah and Black Stars captain Andre Ayew have congratulated players of the Black Stars for securing qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana played as a guest to the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the second leg of the playoff tie in the African qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

With players fighting and forcing the match to end in a 1-1 stalemate at full time, Ghana has secured qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup on the away goal rule.
