FootballIt's Official: Supporters Can Return to Stadiums, Starting With the Nedbank Cup Quarterfinals
- Irvin Khoza, the chairman of the Premier Soccer League made South Africa football supporters happy by confirming that they can return to stadiums, starting with the Nedbank Cup
- The announcement was made earlier today, with the fixtures set for the weekend of the 8th, 9th and 10th of April
- This comes after the South African government lifted restrictions at venues related to the Covid-19 pandemic
In order to gain entry into stadiums, spectators will have to show a vaccination certificate, or show that they have tested negative for Covid-19 no older than 72 hours.
Those attending matches will also be required to produce identification documents, as the PSL confirmed that they would follow strict protocols for the return of supporters to stadiums.
As reported in Soccer Laduma, those going to stadiums must also bring their IDs with them. Only up to 50 percent of the venue's capacity of the stadium can be filled until further notice.
Khoza said:
"When we met as an executive committee yesterday (Monday), we had to make sure what the permutations are and we had to make sure we comply with the requirements in terms of whatever regulation is effective that this point in time.
"There will be 50 percent use of the stadium capacity. Those permitted, will need to produce a valid vaccination certificate or a negative test, which would need to have been obtained no more than 72 hours (after the test was conducted).
"The league has earmarked the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal matches of the 8th and 9th of April as the first matches that will be open to spectators. It would be difficult to start this weekend, as I have indicated that most of the matches were already categorised and approved.
"Next week, those matches were categorised and we are asking that they must be re-categorised, to make sure that they are compliant in terms of the requirements."
