FootballSenegal Coach Admits Egypt Clash in Dakar Will Be Tough Despite Being Confident of Victory
- Senegal coach Aliou Cisse is confident of victory ahead of the second leg of their World Cup play-off against Egypt
- The African champions face the Pharaohs in Dakar after a first leg defeat at the Cairo International Stadium last Friday
- The former Senegal captain expects a difficult to break Egypt team in the second leg on Tuesday at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium
Aliou Cisse remains positive ahead of Senegal's second leg World Cup play-off against Egypt despite admitting it will be a tough game.
Egypt led the tie after the first leg in Cairo last Friday, but a two-goal victory will see the African champions qualify for the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Aliou Cisse refused to share his plan as he expects a strong opposition from the Pharaohs.
“It will be a difficult game. The opponent will fight to hold the lead. The scenario is to score this goal, we would like it to happen quickly. There are several scenarios that we have to put in place to win," said Aliou Cisse as quoted by 13 Football.
"But, I'm not going to reveal my plans here, because there are Egyptians here. Moreover, I welcome them. The challenge is to guide the team to a second World Cup. We've been working on it for years. It's time to show it tomorrow. Carlos Queiroz needs no introduction. Aliou Cisse too. I am young but no less competent," he added.
Senegal and Egypt were both at the FIFA World Cup four years ago, with the two African giants exiting at the group stages in Russia.
Salah and Gabaski mobbed by Senegal fans
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Senegalese football fans put hostilities behind them to give the Egyptian national team a warm reception following their arrival in Dakar for the World Cup play-off.
Notable stars Mohamed Salah and goalkeeper Abou Gabal 'Gabaski' were surrounded by Senegal fans, who wanted to take photos with them despite their role in Sadio Mane's penalty miss in the final of AFCON.
In a video sighted by Sports Brief, the two players who until last night were villains in the eyes of Senegalese were made to feel at home.
