Chelsea striker Timo Werner has boldly declared that the football played by Germany boss Hansi Flick suits him better than the one Chelsea is playing under Thomas Tuchel.
The 26-year old has struggled to live up to his hefty £53million price tag at Chelsea, and has only managed the one Premier League goal so far this campaign.
On Saturday, March 26, Werner was on target for Germany, who claimed a 2-0 win in a friendly against Israel - a victory that made it eight wins from eight matches under the tactician.
Speaking after the match, Werner made some interesting claims that seemed to suggest Thomas Tuchel’s tactics were simply not working for him.
'I'm a striker and always want to score. Things aren't going the way I'd like at Chelsea, so it's all the better that things are going well here under Hansi Flick,” he said as quoted by Daily Mail.
'I really enjoy playing football, no matter where I'm playing. There are differences in the style of play between football at Chelsea and here.
'Maybe the one at the national team suits me better. Here, I always have scoring chances, I can score goals. I feel very comfortable here.'
Werner’s struggles at Chelsea
Since moving to Stamford Bridge in 2020, Werner was expected to hit the ground running, having established himself as a world class striker at RB Leipzig.
But as a Blue, the German has been a shadow of his former self, only managing seven goals in 28 games this season.
In addition, he has struggled to establish himself in Tuchel’s squad, with the gaffer preferring Werner’s German counterpart Kai Havertz up front.
