Barcelona president Joan Laporta has issued a defiant statement as the Catalan giants continue to be linked with summer moves for Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.
This week, fresh sensational reports seemed to suggest that Barcelona had entered the race to sign Mbappe, who will be a free agent at the end of the current season.
The talented 23-year old has been heavily tipped to join Real Madrid for free, and reports claim Los Blancos already have a contract on the table or him.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have also expressed interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, who is another top prospect in world football today.
Laporta’s take on the rumours
Amid growing speculation on Barcelona’s potential summer transfers, President Joan Laporta spoke to Mundo Deportivo where he tried to play it safe with the transfer links.
While he neither confirmed nor denied the club’s intentions to acquire world-class forwards in the summer, Laporta was adamant that Barcelona would not indulge in activity that would place the club in financial ruin.
“You can talk about the players, about transfers with a lot of money, but remember: Barcelona will not lose its mind. Let the partners be calm because we are not going to lose our heads due to mega operations.”
Asked whether Mbappe transfer rumours after Barcelona’s 4-0 win over Real Madrid in the el Classico, Laporta said:
“I think this is the part of the football show business. I have nothing to say about it.”
Despite the acquisition of Piere-Emerick Aubameyang in January, Barcelona are still being linked with some sensational transfers.
Robert Lewandowski is among the latest names to be linked with the Catalan giants, as the Poland international is yet to commit his future to Bayern Munich.
