Argentine football lovers have launched an unusual campaign for the heart of late Diego Maradona to be taken to Qatar 2022 World Cup as means of support for the national team.
Football fraternities in the world were in November 2020 thrown into deep mourning following th demise of soccer great Diego Maradona who died at a rented house in Argentina.
There were reports that the former footballer suffered heart attack before he passed on and investigations about his death is still said to be ongoing.
However, Diego Maradona was interred without his diseased heart and has been kept in formaldehyde at a police lab in La Plata south of Buenos Aires.
Why are they keeping the heart of Maradona?
According to the reports on Daily Star and Marca, the organ was removed so further tests could be done as part of an ongoing investigation into his death, which is expected to lead to the trial of several suspects including Maradona’s doctor Leopoldo Luque.
The reports added that Argentines want the organ to be flown to Qatar and being taken to the stands for all the Argentina's games at the World Cup.
