AS Roma celebrated Ghanaian teen sensation Felix Afena-Gyan on his first invite to the senior national team, the Black Stars, ahead of their World Cup play-off.
The 19-year-old joined the Black Stars for the first time after missing the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon early this year.
In a post on Twitter, the club congratulated the youngster as he prepares to make his maiden bow for the Ghanaian national team.
"First international call-up. 21st on Goal's NXGN 2022. What a week for Felix Afena-Gyan," the club posted.
Afena-Gyan is in Kumasi with his Black Stars teammates as they prepare for their game against Nigeria on Friday.
The youngster is having a breakthrough campaign in the Italian topflight, after manager Jose Mourinho promoted him to the first team.
He has since netted two goals in 14 Serie A games.
Italian ambassador sends goodwill message to Afena-Gyan ahead of Nigeria game
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Italian Ambassador to Ghana, Daniela d'Orlandi has wished the Black Stars the best of luck ahead of the crucial double-header against Nigeria.
The Italian consulate received AS Roma prodigy Felix Afena-Gyan at her office after the latter paid a courtesy call on her after arriving in Ghana for the all-important tie against Nigeria.
Afena-Gyan, one of four debutants named in Otto Addo's squad to face Nigeria, presented a replica jersey to the Italian Ambassador to Ghana to court her goodwill for the match.
