Caretaker coach of the Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen has shed light on his coaching style ahead of the impending World Cup play-offs between Ghana and Nigeria.
Eguavoen, who is the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, will lead the Super Eagles for the all-important doubleheader as interim coach.
The 56-year-old tactician who is in his third stint as Nigeria boss earlier led his country to the 2021 AFCON, where the Super Eagles dazzled at the group stages with some eye-pleasing football but failed to travel far in the competition.
Opening up on his style of coaching, Eguavoen likened his style to former FC Barcelona trainer Pep Guardiola, who is famous for the Tiki-Taka brand of football.
"Do you know Guardiola?" Eguavoen retorted when asked to explain his football philosophy.
"I like his [Guardiola] style of football, I do. It's a bit risky it keeps you on the edge but I like it." He told Ghanaian television network TV3.
"But [my style of play] is a mixture, you have to mix it up. It depends on the reaction of the opposition. Then information goes to our people [players]."
Speaking on how he breaks down his style of play to his playing body, the Super Eagles coach explained: "We train three to four different systems. And then we get information on how opponents react. And then before the game, we talk to our people and during the game, we also send messages to them as well."
