FootballGabadinho Mhango Urged Once Again to Leave Orlando Pirates by Former Premier Soccer League Player
- A former Premier Soccer League player has joined in on the chorus urging Malawian striker Gabadinho Mhango to leave Orlando Pirates
- Gerald Phiri Sr., a fellow countryman of Mhango, made the comments as the frustrated Mhango continues to be sidelined from the starting XI
- Phiri is the father of Gerald Phiri Jr., the Malawian international currently plying his trade in the DStv Premiership with Baroka FC
Former Premier Soccer League player Gerald Phiri Sr. has urged fellow countryman Gabadinho Mhango to depart Orlando Pirates.
The Malawian striker has been something of an unwanted man in the Buccaneers team this season since co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids took the helm. This is despite Mhango's sensational performance at the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon back in January.
Phiri believes that the 29-year-old Mhango needs to seek greener pastures in order to save his career.
Phiri, whose son Gerald Phiri Jr. also plays in the DStv Premiership for Limpopo side Baroka FC, told KickOff:
"This situation is bad and of concerning for us. Maybe the best solution will be for Gabadinho to leave Pirates because right now it doesn't help that he is not playing. How is he going to improve when he is not playing?
"It looks like the situation is so bad that the best thing to do for him is to leave. It will be a good move for him for the sake of playing though I also feel it will still be good for him to stay in South Africa and join another club.
The article also added that Mhango had been linked with a move to an unnamed club in Tanzania. Phiri said that while this would benefit him, he needed to be playing at a higher level.
Phiri said:
"It will be a good move for him for the sake of playing though I also feel it will still be good for him to stay in South Africa and join another club. As coaches, we think differently about players and maybe the authorities at Pirates feel otherwise about him.

Football"So maybe he can move to another team in South Africa will be better than staying at Pirates. I don’t know if the coaches at Pirates have taken time to sit down with him and discuss the issues at hand and what the solution would be. If there is a problem, can they reconcile?"
Orlando Pirates' exclusion of Gabadinho Mhango sees social media take aim at co coaches Ncikazi and Davids
The continued exclusion of Gabadinho Mhango from the Orlando Pirates team is ticking off the team's fans.
As reported by Sports Brief, Mhango, who had a sensational 2021 African Cup of Nations for Malawi recently, has only featured once since returning from the tournament.
Naturally, Pirates fans on social media were unamused about the latest development, with co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids bearing the brunt of the criticism.
