While many fans are excited at the thought of Bafana Bafana taking on France later this month, one former South African player isn’t.
Katlego ‘Killer’ Mphela has spoken out about the upcoming friendly, viewing it as a waste of time.
As reported by KickOff, Mphela dismissed Bafana’s chances of beating the French side. Ironically, Mphela scored in Bafana’s last game against France, a game that the South African team won.
“Beating France is highly impossible, perhaps they will grab a result against Guinea,” Mphela said.
“Asking Bafana Bafana to beat France is a tough task where I think there is no chance,” he added.
Mphela added that sending the team to France was a ‘waste of resources' and that the money could be used elsewhere.
As reported by The South African, Mphela added that the money should have been spent on development programs or used for the Banyana Banyana side. Banyana recently qualified for the AWCON tournament and are flying the flag high for the nation.
Percy Tau suffers injury, withdraws from Bafana squad, replaced with Royal AM's Victor Letsoalo by Hugo Broos
In other news relating to the South African team, Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, has replaced Percy Tau with Royal AM’s Victor Letsoalo for Bafana’s upcoming friendlies, Sports Brief earlier reported.
Letsoalo was originally part of the provisional squad to take on Guinea and then France but did not make the final 23-man squad. Percy Tau was included in the squad but suffered a knee injury during Al Ahly’s CAF Champions League fixture over the weekend, KickOff reported.
The news has frustrated Hugo Broos, who has become tired of the constant injuries to one of his key players, The Witness reported. Bafana has already jetted off to Europe for their upcoming international friendlies. Bafana will take on Guinea in Belgium on 25 March and then turn their attention to World Champions France on 29 March.
