- The football federation has been engaging the Southampton defender in a bid to convince the young guardsman to play for the senior men's national team
- But Mark Addo hinted at the player's unreadiness to turn up for the Black Stars despite the several attempts made by the GFA
Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Mark Addo has disclosed the football federation made frantic efforts to convince Mohammed Salisu to play for Ghana but proved futile.
The 22-year-old has been reluctant to play for the country of his birth with widespread reports suggesting his snub at the youth level has been the contributing factor to his dogmatic stance on not playing for Ghana.
Despite his reluctance, the Ghana Football Association has been making frenetic efforts to ensure they snap up the former Real Valladolid central defender.
He was expected to be named in coach Otto Addo's squad to face Nigeria in the crucial World Cup play-offs.
However, Salisu is conspicuously missing in Otto Addo's 27-man squad with many questioning why he has not been included in the list.
Explaining his absence from the Black Stars, Mark Addo, who doubles as the vice president of the GFA, suggested the stalwart defender is unready to play for the Black Stars.
“We engaged Mohammed Salisu on several occasions but he is not ready to play for Ghana,” he told Kumasi-based Kessben FM as quoted by Football Ghana.
The Black Stars will be seeking to make a return to the World Cup when they cross swords with the Super Eagles of Nigeria over two legs.
